The movie Dear Vaappi features Lal playing a character whose dream is to become a fashion designer, and the film works to the extent that it does because of Lal's performance. The first half of the film works well in a low-key mode, with the story revolving around entrepreneurial dreams. However, the gauzy, feel-good nature of the film becomes a major problem in the second half, as it becomes overly simplistic and lacks depth. The film could have been elevated with more conflict and emotion. Overall, the audience may enjoy the sweet, simple, feel-good vibe of the movie, but it may not be satisfying as a complete film.
