968 AD. The Pandyan assassins gather once again to destroy the Chola dynasty. Now the mighty Chola princes must fight the Pandyas, the Rashtrakutas and other Chola enemies who have joined forces. Also, at play are the rumours of Ponniyin Selvan’s death at sea, the powerful Pazhuvettarayar’s betrayal, and the tragic destiny of Aditha Karikalan, whose heart was long lost to the vengeful Nandini.
The story requires more establishment of the characters' livelihood ,the film doesn't fulfill that requirement. The cinematography and the directors storyline were fine. But this isn't a story that has to be completed on 2 films where many storylines were avoided. Rather, it could have been made into a series that could have uplifted the kollyhood chinnathirai market and value.

Mani Ratnam, the director, creates a genuinely epic experience that reverberates long after the conflicts are over by deftly balancing spectacle and sensitivity. The film redefines what it means to be "epic" by prioritising emotional depth above an extravagant budget.
